This Halloween, join us for a now-forgotten operetta - coming back to London over 140 years after its premiere. ​ Rip Van Winkle is a forgotten English-language operetta by Robert Planquette based on two stories by Washington Irving - Rip van Winkle and the famous Sleepy Hollow. The piece premiered in London in 1882, running for almost 300 performances, but the English version hasn’t been performed since. With a cast of exceptional singers, Gothic Opera will be approaching this charming piece with fresh eyes, and reinvigorating it with a new chamber arrangement and newly-written dialogue.

Enjoy an outstanding musical evening in the run-up to Christmas with an exquisite selection of arias and choruses from Handel's masterpiece, The Messiah. Brought to you by the musicians of The Piccadilly Sinfonietta, accompanying some of the most accomplished and talented singers in the UK today. In addition, the programme will include two of Bach's finest violin concertos and his much loved Air on the G String. Set in the beautiful candlelit location of Ely Cathedral, this will be a festive evening to remember! Programme Bach - Air on a G string Bach - Violin Concerto in A minor Bach - Double Violin Concerto in D minor (Interval) Handel – Messiah (Selected Arias and Choruses) Featuring The Piccadilly Sinfonietta String and voice soloists to be confirmed The Piccadilly Sinfonietta Since its formation in 2017, the Piccadilly Sinfonietta have become a regular feature on the UK concert scene, giving up to 100 performances a year in some of the country’s most beautiful and prestigious venues. The ensemble comprises some of the most prodigious musical talent and performs exclusively with leading virtuoso soloists. The group performs under the artistic direction of its founder, concert pianist Warren Mailley-Smith and focuses on the virtuoso concerto repertoire of the baroque, classical and early romantic periods.
